New York Botanical Garden — Creating an adaptable, sensory learning experience

Project Information
The New York Botanical Garden Interactive Guide was a concept that I created for Cue Lab. I refreshed the branding and developed an augmented reality concept that centered around at-home and in-person experiences that changed dynamically with the seasons.

Customize your journey

I wanted to expand the reach of the New York Botanical Garden experience so that one can explore either in their home, or in-person. The journey changes depending on how one self-selects. Those at home can choose an AR experience, and those already in the gardens may want to choose the audio guides or maps. The app detects the season, and one can either choose to explore their current season, or experience a different one.

Augmented reality

The app's augmented reality experience changes depending on one's location. When at home, the app leverages web-based augmented reality to view the different gardens and collections. If one is already at the gardens, it uses a markerless, vision-based detection by means of internal GPS in order to identify the collections. Guests can interact with their surroundings utilizing touch gestures.

Dynamic experiences

The in person app-experience offers both interactive and audio guided tours. Guests explore their surroundings with the re-designed map and location services, which allow them to freely explore, or navigate to a specific location.

The app adapts its color styles, photography, and sound as the seasons change, to beautifully emulate the transformation of the gardens within each season.
